20th Century Conflicts

How World War I shaped our History and Culture

World War I is one of the 20th Century Conflicts we will be studying this semester. In this exercise, you will explore the underlying causes of World War I and how it reached a global level. You will also express your thoughts on how this conflict shaped 21st Century History.

Assignment

Visit The Great War and the Shaping of the 20th Century

at: http://www.pbs.org/greatwar/chapters/index.html and address the following topics:

 

1. List the factors which led up to the start of World War I in 1914.

2. Explain the evolution of the war from 1914 to its end in 1919. This should be no more than 350 words, and you may find the Timeline link helpful.

3. Read The Shaping of The 21st Century and discuss (in 150 words) what you feel are the most important points regarding how WWI effected the 21st Century.

1. Who had the most forces mobilized between 1914-1918 and how many did the United States have?

2. In what year were the highest number of Neutral and Allied ships lost?

3. What country suffered the greatest financial losses from the war?

4. Which country suffered the least financial losses?

5. What was the total cost of World War I?
