Internet Course Module

Utilizing the Favorites Feature On Your Computer

Goals:

1. Students will learn how the Favorites feature works, and become comfortable using it.

2. Students will compile their own favorites list of web pages.

3. Students will learn how to save their favorite sites and organize them into folders.

Introduction:

The list of wonderful websites on the internet just seems endless. Sometimes while researching a topic of interest, we come across some great sites, but become caught up in the search process. As a result, we forget the address of the site, or exactly how we found it to begin with. After completing this course module, I am confident that this will become a thing of the past. You will no longer search unsuccessfully for that great website that you wanted to revisit, because it will be saved on your favorites list or organized in your folder.

Activities:

The terms favorites and bookmarks all depend on what internet browser you are using. Internet Explorer uses the term favorites, while Netscape uses the term bookmarks. The purpose behind the terms is basically the same; to save websites of interest.

Read the following tutorial on favorites.

1. Internet Explorer- How to add favorites

2. How to organize favorites

These links will provide you with information on how to add favorites to your computer. They will also tell you how to organize your favorites into folders. Practice adding a favorite to your favorites list. Then add another favorite, and practice placing it into a folder. Once you have done this, continue on to the assignment below.

Assignment:

Choose four favorite websites from the following categories:

1. Best Search Engines

2. Computer Viruses

3. Virtual Fieldtrips

4. Plagiarism

Add your sixteen websites to your favorites list.

Use the categories above to organize your favorites into folders. (You should have four favorite websites under each folder).

Submission:

In a Word document complete the following:

1. As a review, write down the steps you took to add the files to your favorites list and then into a folder.

2. Email your instructor your four favorites folders as an attachment.
