Copyright Assignment
Scenario 1
The teacher who allowed her students
to create motivating PowerPoint presentations is within her rights, within
certain circumstances. The students must
only use up to 5 pictures from one creator or up to 10% or 15 works from a
collection (whichever is less). Also,
the students can only show their presentations for academic purposes. They can also be included in portfolios. If these were older students, they could be
used to procure a job or for school reference opportunities for college or
graduate school. The student may not
keep their own copy of the presentation.
Also, sources must be credited and Fair Use guidelines must be included
on the first screen of the presentation.
This seems like a lot of work.
Tell them to use clip art!
Scenario 6
Mr. Jamweimer
is a very generous and thoughtful man but it is not a good idea for the school
to use this software. Using the software
at school would not be a Fair Use issue but it would be a licensing issue. Many of us have become so accustomed to
clicking on the "I agree" box when licensing agreements pop up on our
screens that we forget about them. However,
it is not ethical for the software to be shared in this way as most companies
who sell software would not want it shared.
