Searching the Web for Teachers

Goals:

*      Teachers will be able to summarize and develop a short set of search strategies that are easily learned and remembered.

*      Teachers will implement curriculum plans that include applying technology to maximize student learning.

*      Teachers will use technology to support learner-centered strategies that address the diverse needs of students.

Overview:

Teaching is one of the hardest jobs in the world and with the introduction of computers and the World Wide Web it is getting even harder.  Most teachers I have met say they do not have time to do all they have to do and search the Web for information to use in their instruction and with their students. The modules we will be working on will help you get a quick start to searching the Web and allow you some time to begin your search.

Module 2

Applying Search Strategies to Your Curriculum

Now that you have had a chance to read and think on the Search Tips, let’s put them into action. Using the topic or lesson you chose for you homework assignment, develop a list of key words you may use in your search for the best Web site to use with your student. Use the strategies found in the Four Net Steps and the Search Engine Math. Date and add this list to your activity log for this course.

Next, go to GOOGLE.com and begin an advanced search.  Log the Key words used, the number of hits, and state weather the first 10 hits were useful to your topic or lesson. Use all the steps in the Four Net model. Make revision as needed and put them in your log.

Finally, develop a technology lesson to be used with your students. Keep it simple.  Use one Web page and ask the students 5 to 10 questions pertaining to your objective/s.
