Elective Activity—Communications

                                 Subscribing to Newsletters

I picked 2 newsletters that reflect my interests, not my teaching subject.  I subscribed to iVillage’s Health & Well-Being newsletter (http://health.ivillage.com/?ice=iv,mp,bu,hw), and About.com’s Books and Literature newsletter (http://www.about.com/arts/)

I found the iVillage newsletter to be informative and fun.  There were different articles featured that all I had to do was click on to view—such as “Secrets of Happiness - smileLet the Goddess of Happiness point the way toward joy,” and “Conversation of the Week: How do you control your emotions?”  They feature interesting articles with things I can use—like tips to be happier and healthier.  I found it useful.  I wasn’t bombarded with pop-ups, either.

The second subscription newsletter, the About.com Books & Literature, provided various articles, such as “National Literacy Month -- How to Improve Reading and Literacy,” and some links to all kinds of different quotes, art quotes, wedding quotes, love quotes.   It also provides links to other literary sites, top picks, and history of a Shakespeare play, among other things.  This is a nice subscription, too.  Although I usually like finding what I read by browsing in person, in a store, the articles can give me other ideas as well.

If I had to pick one, I would go with the iVillage newsletter, because I am a big health & wellness person, and that is what I like to read!
