Web Link Bibliography: Elementary Computer Lab Links

This bibliography is a list of web sites for students and teachers to use as a class or to browse individually for fun. These are my favorite sites for children related to math, science, social studies, language arts, and kid safe search engines. Search Engine Activity

Course Module

This activity is for parents. With all the good information and resources available to children on the Internet, there are also risks. You Can Save Energy!

The Whole Story on Skin

This is a health activity for fifth grade students. Students learn about skin, it’s layers and purposes. The activity can be viewed at www2.mcdaniel.edu/slm/student/jankoskij/dropin2.htm.

 

 

Investigating Colonial America

A World of Cinderellas

Our Government

Viruses

We all receive e-mails warning us of computer viruses. However, many of those warnings are hoaxes.  This activity provides a form letter to send to those who send you hoax e-mails and a tip sheet for how to protect your computer against viruses. Filtering

One strategy schools and libraries use to make Internet safe for students is filtering. However, not all agree that filtering is appropriate or effective. I have compiled a list of filtering pros and cons as well as my own thoughts on a teachers’ roles to ensure safe Internet use. E-mail

Field Trips

The Internet allows us to do and see things that were beyond our reach before. One thing we can do is take students on a virtual field trip. There are many virtual field trips available for a wide variety of places and topics. I found four good sites that focused on space and space flight. Presentations Online

School Library Media Websites

Library websites are becoming a more and more important way for libraries to stay relevant to patrons. A library’s website must well organized and useful. Student Publishing Online

Publishing online is a great way for students to share their outstanding work with others. Teachers need to follow appropriate guidelines for maintaining student privacy.
