Lesson Plans

Educators have a lot of responsibilities, both at home and at school. It is nice to be able to find teaching ideas online to use in the classroom. However, there are many lesson plan sites out there. I have created a short bibliography of quality lesson plans sites to help elementary teachers and librarians find lesson ideas online fast and easy.

The Educator’s Reference Desk: Lesson Plans – This is my favorite lesson plan site that I have always used. There are more than 2000 lesson plans that are searchable by grade and topic. Lessons on this site must be submitted for selection according to eight major criteria. I have found these plans to be very high quality and extremely useful. The Lesson Plans Page – This site has over 2,500 free lesson plans that you can find using a search tool or browse by grade and subject. I saw lots of good plans on this site; however, this site was a little heavier on quantity than quality. It did not seem like the plans were screened in any way and pretty much anyone could submit a new plan, so read over what you find and make sure it is quality. A to Z Teacher Stuff – This site has free searchable lesson plans for preschool through high school. What I especially liked about this site is that in addition to individual lesson plans; it also includes thematic units as well. This site does claim to do some type of reviewing, but it does not mention selection criteria or anything like that, so keep that in mind when searching. Lesson Planz – This site provides a wide variety of lesson planning resources. You can search for individual plans in all grades and subject areas, thematic units, and learning centers. I was not able to find any information about how they obtain these resources. There was not an open submission link. However, the plans that I looked at were very good and covered a wide range of topics. Date visited – 3/13/2006 http://www.lessonplanz.com/

Teachers.Net Lesson Plans – This site offers great free lesson plans that you can search by topic or general grade level. One thing I liked about this site is that if you do not find what you are looking for, there is a request page where you can ask for a topic to be added in the future. This site does accept submissions and did not state any lesson criteria. Date visited – 3/16/2006 http://teachers.net/lessons/posts/posts.html
