After
reviewing and testing numerous search engines, I found the following to be the
most effective for the categories listed:
![]()
Sponsored
by Google, this site allows for easy searching with only a key word or
phrase. Once results are obtained, they
are listed with pictures, prices and links to the selling sites.
This
site also provides for easy shopping, allowing for searches based on keywords
or category. An easy to read comparison
chart is included with search results.
![]()
One
of my favorite search engines from this activity, this site provides an easy to
navigate way for kids to find information on a variety of topics including,
fighting crime, global village and safety.
The graphics and animations add to the fun and ease of the site.
Maintained
by librarians, this site allows for search by category or by keyword. More than 600 subjects are included and the
category list is substantial.
![]()
This
site allows for a quick search by keyword and can sort the results by web,
news, pictures, video and audio.
Search
is initiated by keyword and the results are more inclusive and faster than any
of the other sites I reviewed.
Classic
Google, this site provides top news stories and allows for search by topic,
country or keyword.
A
little less visually appealing than the Google site, this site also lists many
of the day’s top stories and allows for searches by keyword or topic.
![]()
This
site not only provides for easy keyword search but it also contains links to
other sites offering drug information, directories of doctors and a medical
encyclopedia.
Easy
keyword searches with links to many articles related to search subject. The site also has “check symptoms” and “find
a doctor” sections.
