Elective
Activity: School Library Media Websites
What Should Be On A School Library Media Website?
1. The site needs to be clear and simple. There should not be tons of pictures and clipart to distract the person looking for information. The site though needs to be attractive.
2.
The site should include announcements for special events. Parents like to know what is going on in the school. This is a way to inform the parents on any
thing going on in the library. Examples
of special events might be: reading nights, story times, and reading
incentives.
3.
There should be feature booklists.
These
lists could be used for grade appropriate texts that parents could use to help
his/her child chose good books. These
lists could also be books that are good to use with social studies and science
units.
4.
An important part of the site would be information for parents. This part of the site could give advice to parents on how to help
his/her child. There should be links to
good sites for homework help. There
should also be tips on how to help his/her child with schoolwork. There could also be a list of good search
engines parents can use with their child.
5.
There also needs to be links to recommended sites for students to
use. This part of the site could just list links
or divide the links into categories.
The categories should either be based on grade level or social studies
and science units.
6.
Finally, there should be links to resources. Resources would include reference materials, how to
do research, and magazine links. Parents,
students and teachers could use this part of the site. The reference materials should be free or accessible
by a library number.
