Life Cycles

Meet the Mealworms-This is a printable activity book to use with students.  The book has many parts to it.  You label the mealworm and do experiments.  The activity book has questions for the students to answer about the experiments.  It also has graphs for students to complete.   This web site has a whole list of insects for a teacher to look at.  The links to the insects have wonderful real life pictures to use in a classroom.  Some of the pages have information about the insects.  There is also a list of links to other insect sites.   This page is all about ladybugs.  It is a good site for both teachers and students.  This site includes facts, anatomy, life cycle, lore, crafts, and games.  The information given is short and easy to understand.  The site is also easy to navigate. Yahooligans! AnimalsThis is a great site.  The site uses Ranger Rick for the information.  The major categories the site has are reptiles, amphibians, mammals, fishes, insects, and birds.  Once one of these categories is picked, there is another list of more specific animals to pick from.  The information given for the animals is short and easy to understand.  The information can be used for research. Explore Deep Space With KidsAstronomy.com This site is full of information for students.  It has sections on the solar system, deep space, space exploration, and how big is the universe.  The information is short and to the point.  A student would not feel overwhelmed by this information.  There are also games that students can play.  This site could be used for teacher and student research. Nasa Kids- This site has a lot of information on a kids level.  They talk about a wide variety of topics related to space.  There are also videos students can watch.  For example, one of the videos is a shuttle launch.  Date visited 9/23/03

Solar System Tour- This site has a virtual tour of the solar system.  You can listen to and watch a film about any planet, the sun, the moon, a comet, and the Astrid belt.  The tour of the planet includes an introduction to the planet, features about the planet, interior of the planet, satellites of the planet, and then you can explore the planet.  Students will find this very interesting.  Date visited 9/23/03

This site is great to use with younger students.  It includes information about the planets and other parts of space.  The information given is in kid language.  It is short and to the point.  Younger students would be able to research information off of this site.  It is also very easy to navigate. Native Americans

 

Native American Shelters- This page shows the shelters for the Native Americans around the U.S.  Once a section of the U.S. is chosen, a page of information comes up.  The information explains the house and has pictures to accompany it.  The pictures are very good and most are real photographs. Native American Story Tellers- This page has four different storytellers on it.  You can either just read the story or listen to the story with real player.  Students will like to hear the person speaking about their culture. Date visited 9/23/03

Kachina Doll Craft- This page is a read to perform a task.  It is to make a Kachina Doll.  The directions are written on an elementary level.  It also gives a small explanation of what a Kachina doll is and why it was made.  It should be used when discussing the Hopi tribe. Native American Publications- This page is for teachers and not really for students.  It gives a list of books for children about Native Americans.  The list includes books, coloring books, magazines, maps, and real children books.  The list has the title of the book, a short summery of the books, and how to obtain the book. Communities

 

USDA Agriculture Game- This was a very interesting game for students to learn facts about farms and agriculture.  A bee takes you through the game.  Select a picture and you are asked a question.  If the question is answer right, you get honey.  You have to get enough honey before the sun goes down to win the game.  The questions were somewhat hard but still fun to play.  Date visited 9/26/03

kclogo2.gif (13059 bytes)    This site discusses city planning.  There are a lot of games and activities to help students get acquainted with their community.  There is a mad-lib type activity to make a silly story about a town.  There is also a scavenger hunt of a community.  Date visited 9/26/03

Science

 

  This is a great science site.  There are many different science topics.  Each topic has a video for the students to watch.  There is also a quiz that goes along with the video.  The site also offers experiments to try at home or in the classroom.  The only bad part of this site is that if you don’t belong to the site, it only lets you do two activities day. Current events

TIME FOR KIDS - This is a great site for news articles.  This site is geared toward children.  The stories are written on a simpler level.  The stories are also ones that children will be interested in.  Time for Kids also tackles the top new stories in a way children can understand.  The articles can be printed off the computer.  This site can be used for Reading for Information or Current Events.  Date visited 9/26/03
