Citing Internet Resources

After reviewing all of the websites and searching the Internet for other useful sites I decided to focus to focus on MLA citation format.  Since this is probably the most used style in high school and middle school, exploring these sites seemed to have more relevance.  Also, I prefer MLA to APA, personally and I have used it more often.  I would recommend two sites to my students: Write Source (http://www.thewritesource.com/mla.htm) and the Indiana University Libraries (http://www.indiana.edu/~libugls/Publications/electronic_mla.html ).  I chose these sites because each site listed different parts of the citation and the formatting necessary to accomplish a proper citation.  Also, each site gives examples of the different forms of citations a student might encounter.  They are clearly labeled by what type of site it would be appropriate for.  The Indiana University site also includes examples on how to cite non-internet sources.  Finally, each site gives examples of a proper citation.  I feel that this particularly useful because it can be hard to understand what the proper punctuation is for a citation and where to place that citation.  An example just gives a concrete example to reinforce the idea.

I would recommend that my students use a citation machine.  In most case, I think you can figure it out by description and example. However, some sites can be difficult to either figure out what they are or what heading they would fit under.  In this case, I think a citation machine would be helpful.  Also, it would definitely help with the punctuation.  If they are careful with the information they enter, the citation machine will be helpful, especially with unclear websites.
