This page provides a list of various different websites that maybe helpful to art students and art teacher.  This includes places to post your art, college resources, career advice, and sites to help break up artists block.

 

Online ArtistsŐ Communities

 

Deviant Art: This page allows artists to post and sell their works in a secure environment.  Artist can also submit their works fro critiques and critique others work.  Membership is free.  Works are clearly organized by media, and includes a craft section.  The site also includes a shop and a live chat section. Foundmyself.com: This site is a free artistŐs community where artists can post and sell their works.  It operates on the honor system and artists handle all transactions with their buyers.  The site also includes a forum where you can post critiques or just chat with other artists.  Focuses on the more traditional arts such as painting, drawing and photography. Etsy: This site focuses on selling handmade art such as clothing, jewelry and ceramics.  There is also a section for traditional arts.  Artists can form teams with other users by location, interest or media to help promote each other.  The site also offers a discussion forum, tutorials and resources to help you sell your art. Empty Easel: This site is more like a blog.  It is updated weekly with articles and tutorials.  The articles review other artist communities and which sites are best to use to buy and sell art.  You can post and sell art on the site and post any articles you find. Wet Canvas: This is another site where artists can post their work and get critiques from other artists.  It is free, but donations are encouraged.  Payment is required if you wish to create a website through this site.  This site is unique because it offers several tutorials and lessons on things like color theory classic techniques. Career Advice and Resources

 

Artist Resource: This site gives straightforward advice on careers for the multimedia artist, specifically graphic designers, illustrators, and other digital artists.  It gives an overview of salaries, description of careers and duties and tips for interviewing and creating portfolios.  Also has several links to other sites listing jobs or calls for entries.

Art Schools:  This site offers tips for locating and choosing the right art program based on interest and desired career.  The tips are practical and useful.  Programs can be searched by name or by location.  Programs are listed by focus.  Also includes on line program and classes, articles and other resources. Art Majors, Art Programs: This site offers a long list of possible majors and careers in the visual arts.  Each possible major has a short descriptive paragraph with a definition of the job, what program of study is needed to be able to enter the field and a list of careers from that area of study.  After each paragraph is a link to schools offering programs in that field and any websites or magazines focusing on that field. Preparing Your Portfolio: This site offers advice in preparing an artistic portfolio for college admissions. An artistic portfolio is needed to get into any art college.  The site details what should and should not be included, digital portfolios, slides, and helpful tips. Art Supplies

 

Dick Blick: This site offers a variety of art supplies at great discounts. Inspiration

 

Art Inspiration: This site contains several links to articles.  It focuses on helping artists get over their creative blocks.  It has links to project ideas for adults and children and many activities designed to increase creativity.  They also have links to several sites with reference photos to help you create an image. Being an Artist: This site is a fun website designed to increase your creativity.  The author offers several thoughts on creativity and activities to increase creativity.  Much of the site is very silly and colorful, designed to remind you of what it was like when you were you and your imagination ran wild. Reference Photos: This site offers a list of websites that have reference images for artists.  Most artists like to work from an image or at the very least are inspired by these images.  Each site is linked from the page and includes a description of what reference materials are available.
