Search engines
Below is a
list of search engines that I have found helpful for specific categories. I
have also included a short explanantion
of each search engine. Separate categories include: General, News, Education
(for teachers and parents), Medical, and Meta Search engines. I hope these
prove most helpful in your hunt for information.
Meta search engines
Mamma
“The Mother of all Search Engines.” Mamma.com is a "smart"
meta-search engine - every time you type in a query Mamma simultaneously
searches a variety of engines, directories, and deep content sites, properly
formats the words and syntax for each, compiles their results in a virtual
database, eliminates duplicates, and displays them in a uniform manner
according to relevance. It's like using multiple search engines, all at the
same time.” (from site) Easy to use. I always use this site first for any
complicated search.
Dogpile
Dogpile claims to be “simply the
easiest way to find better search results from more of the Web.”
“Dogpile
uses innovative metasearch technology to search the Internet's top search
engines, including Google, Yahoo, AltaVista, Ask Jeeves, About, FAST, FindWhat,
LookSmart, and many more.
With
one single click, Dogpile fetches the best results from the combined pool of
the best search engines -- instead of results from just one single search
engine.
And Dogpile makes it easy to refine
your search so you can find the most meaningful results right away.” (from
site)

have voted this search engine #1.
