Fall 2003Internet Online Course Module

Disease Pamphlet

Objectives: Students will be able to use research information about communicable diseases obtained online to create a pamphlet similar to those used in clinics for patient information.

Introduction: During this course we have used principals of anatomy and physiology to determine the nature of particular diseases. Today you will research a communicable disease and create a pamphlet that would enlighten the public and provide specific information about the disease.

Activity: You will go online and research a communicable disease. You will create an information pamphlet similar to those you would see in the doctor's office or clinic. Read the directions below and be sure to include, in your final product, all of the components listed.

1. Visit http://www.health.state.ny.us/nysdoh/communicable_diseases/en/index.htm

2.  Using a search engine of your choice (i.e. Yahoo!, Google, Mamma) find an illustration for your project. Save the picture to a word file. To save select Save as: “Yournamepic.”

3. Once you have obtained the information and a picture, your task will be to create your pamphlet similar to one you would see in the doctor's office or clinic. Follow the directions below.

In the Novell window left click on the office 2000 flag.

In the folders menu select the “Publications” tab

Choose brochure and click okay.

Follow the Template provided.

Add all of your information and your picture to the pamphlet. Be sure to cite the resources you used for this project.

4. Save your work by selecting “Save as” in the file menu. Then save as “yourname.” Use your school email and send the project to me as an attachment. I have a printer in my room that will print on both sides of the paper, the one in the science lab does not do this. I will print it out and grade it. Your projects will be displayed in the display cabinet next to the cafeteria. Make sure that you do a good job! Please note if you do not cite your sources I will not grade your project. If you do not know how to do this go to http://www.bedfordstmartins.com/online/cite5.html

Assessment: Your project is worth a total of 50 points. The project will be graded as follows:
