Mr. Gregory’s Computer Lab
Checklist for Students
These rules apply to students using computers in the
science labs as well as in the classrooms. Please read the computer lab rules
and complete the computer checklist at the end.
- A
student must have permission before using any computer and before
accessing the Internet. The teacher should assign each student to one
computer station and keep a record of that information. Students should
only use that station during that lab visit. The room will have a
clipboard with forms attached for this purpose.
- Students
must follow teacher directions for logging-on to a computer.
In the science
lab the username is: science; there is no password (click OK)
- At
no time should students identify themselves by giving out personal
information, which includes: Name, phone number, sex, age, or address.
There is no internet site that my students visit that would require any
additional information. If students receive a prompt which asks for this
sort of information it is their responsibility to report it to me
immediately so that it can be dealt with accordingly.
- Students
should use the computer as a tool to complete the assignment without
changing any computer settings, screen backgrounds, screen savers, etc.
Students must not explore or browse the hard drive or system folders of
the computer or network.
- Have
students report problems at their computer station immediately. Look for
missing mouse balls, keyboard damage, graffiti on tables or mouse pads,
broken chairs, improper screen settings, speakers should be off with
volume down, and any other problems.
- While
on the Internet: NO Instant
messages, bulletin boards, chat rooms, e-mail, radio, downloading
software, games, music, etc.
- Students
should have a clear understanding of what they are to accomplish in the
lab.
- Keep
room lights on unless the room must be darkened for an audiovisual
presentation.
- Speakers
should be turned on only at the direction of the teacher.
- No
food or drinks.
- Before
leaving the lab: Students must close all programs, be sure Novell
Applications window is visible, turn down volume and turn off speakers,
place computer mice upside down on table so missing balls can be easily
spotted, dispose of trash, and push in chairs when dismissed by teacher.
- Teachers
will check each station for the above. Please complete the lab form, note
any problems, return the clipboard to its proper place, and return
earphones (if they were used).
- Report
all computer problems to the teacher right away.
