Elective – Lesson Plans
Here a few links to websites that give over useful lesson plans for teaching Ancient Rome to middle school.
The Roman Forum – this site offers an interactive lesson plan, whereby students research the various aspects of daily life in the Roman Forum. It offers excellent use of resources, such as reference materials and the Internet, and also offers opportunities for extending their knowledge through making a play and integrating the knowledge to assess our daily lives. http://www.proteacher.com/cgi-bin/outsidesite.cgi?id=12739&external=http://www.eduplace.com/ss/hmss/6/unit/act6.2.html&original=http://www.proteacher.com/090084.shtml&title=A%20Day%20at%20the%20Roman%20Forums
Roman Warfare – this lesson plan offers a thematic unit across the curriculum of History and Language Arts. The students take the information about Roman warfare and construct a one-act play. There are also links to other information sites, as well as opportunities for enrichment. http://school.discovery.com/lessonplans/program/expansion/
Roman Numerals – this is another lesson plan that joins with another subject – math! Students learn about Roman numerals and then get to test their understanding by completing math equations using the Roman numerals. http://www.education-world.com/a_lesson/02/lp276-03.shtml
Roman Mosaics – in this lesson, students learn information about Roman mosaics and then are able to apply that information by actually constructing their own mosaics.

Ancient Rome – this website requires a lot of materials, but the result seems worthwhile. This website also offers links to other sites discussing Rome, and the website offers lesson by lesson plans to cover the entire unit. http://www.pbs.org/empires/romans/classroom/lesson1.html
