The Age of the Five Good Emperors

As we continue our discussion on the various emperors of Rome, and their influences, good or bad, on the empire, we will visit an online site to give us more information regarding the time period between 96-180 C.E. (A.D.).This age was known as the “Age of the Five Good Emperors.”

Visit the site:

http://psdweb.parklandsd.org/bbcards/requiredemperors/notableemperors.htm

to learn about the five emperors and their reign.

Complete the following tasks once you have read the information:

1) List the name of each emperor in order, the number of years he ruled, and his age at the time of his death.

2) Discuss how Trajan, Antoninus Pius, and Marcus Aurelius’s actions led to their receiving their various nicknames (“Optimus Princeps”, “Pius”, and “Philosopher-King”).

3) Choose one of the five emperors that you feel had the greatest influence on Rome, and explain why.
