ARTIFACT: On-Line Book Club

REFLECTION:

"I don't have time to read!"

"I can't find anything to read!"

"I don't like to read!"

Can you hear the sound of my heart breaking?

One of my goals as a Media Specialist is to instill a sense of enjoyment in reading in others that will lead to lifelong reading habits. Through the on-line book club, students will build relationships, increase reading interests and cultivate the desire to read and discuss that will last a lifetime. By facilitating a safe and anonymous environment, the LMS can attract students who may otherwise not participate in a physical or social discussion. There are many students out there who are full of ideas yet have a difficult time particpating in group discussion. In an on-line book club, the anxiety level can be lowered. This on-line book club is accessible at home and at school, day or night. It focuses not only on fiction genres, but non-fiction, magazines, and appropriate websites. Pleasurable reading experiences will provide students with a desire to read. (And with that, as we all know, an increase of vocabulary, comprehension, and higher cognitive processes will naturally follow!)
