The following is a list of websites that could be helpful to a second or third grade student. This list covers main subjects of those grades, including language arts, math, social studies, and science.

 

Language Arts

 

Dositey is a site that provides a student with help in many different language arts topics. A student can practice skills in areas such as spelling, grammar, phonics, reading, and writing. The majority of the activities are games which help the student work on their different skills. Date visited- 6/3/06

          Education Place is a site provided by Houghton Mifflin Company, which supplies the majority of the textbooks and resources to schools

for their language arts units. The site allows students to choose their grades and then provides additional help for the areas they are covering within that certain grade. Date visited 6/3/06

Primary Grades is a site that provides a variety of games that a student can play to practice their language art skills. The student will have to complete different skills such as spelling words, filling in missing letters, or finding words creating contractions. Date visited  6/3/06

Brain Pop- English provides information on all different aspects of reading and writing. A student can choose a certain topic and view a video or demonstration of that topic. This site also allows the student to practice the different skills they are researching. Date visited  6/3/06

Fake Out! This site works on a student’s ability to define words. The student must first pick a word from their grade level. Then they must pick from a list of possible definitions. Once the student answers, the site informs them if they are right, or it gives the correct definition. Date visited  6/3/06

Math

 

A+Math is a great site for students to practice different math skills. A+Math provides flashcards for many different subjects. This site also has games the student can play which make practicing math fun. There is also a homework helper the students can access to aid them in complete harder assignments. Date visited 6/3/06

Coolmath4kids covers the majority of topics a second or third grade student would encounter in their math class. This site is very colorful and interactive. The students can attempt to run their own lemonade stand through this site. There are a variety of different math games the students can play. This site also works on harder topics such as fractions and decimals. Date visited 6/3/06

Kidsnumbers is a site designed by teachers for student to use to practice their addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division skills. This site provides flash cards for each topic. There are a variety of games the student can play covering a variety of topics including money and spatial reasoning. Date visited 6/3/06

AAA Know Math breaks down math topics into specific topics. A student can find help on many different specific math topics through this site. This link takes a student to the third grade math page. If the student is looking for a different grade they simply have to scroll down on the left and choose the correct grade. This site provides demonstrations on each of the topics covered. 3rd Grade Mathematics Skills is a site base on Tennessee Curriculum Standards. It provides activities that review all of the topics covered under these standards. Many of the activities are games students can play to practice their skills. Date visited  6/3/06

Social Studies

 

Social Studies for Kids is a site that covers a wide range of social studies topics. The site provides historical information for the current week of the year. Social Studies for Kids provides information on geography, history, government, economics and much more. A student can simply find information or play games on such topics. Date visited 6/3/06

Bens Guide to U.S Government allows a student to explore different topics dealing with the United States Government. The student can find information on our government, our nation as a whole, symbols of our government, and much more. This link brings a person to the site designed for grades k-2. However, if the student is older they can simply click on the next flag which takes them to the page designed for grades 3-5. Date visited 6/3/06

Econopolis is a site that covers economics. The site is sent up in a story fashion. There are characters that help explain each economic topic the student chooses to explore. The site also provides information and worksheets for teacher on the economic topics. Date visited 6/3/06

Brain Pop-Social Studies is an interactive site that covers a variety of social studies topics. This site provides videos that explain the different topics. Brain Pop also breaks each topic down into smaller areas. A student can also take pop quizzes dealing with the information they are gathering. Date visited  6/3/06

Third Grade  Social Studies is a site that links a student to many other sites covering different social studies topics. Some of the topics include things like geography, states, American history, and American government. Date visited  6/3/06

Science

 

Macmillan-McGraw-hill is the website that coincides with the text books that a majority of elementary school use in their classrooms. Through this site the students in third grade can find different activities that go long with the different chapter in their book. The student can access lesson summaries, crossword puzzles, Cloze quizzes, and much more for each chapter. Date visited 6/3/06

Recycle City is a site all about the importance of recycling. A student can play the dumptown game where they will have to clean up a town. The student can also learn different facts about recycling and trash. This site also provides ways for teachers to use this site within their classroom. Date visited 6/3/06

The Beehive is a site where a student can view and choose the grade level at which they would like to review a science topic. Some of the topics this site covers include things like insects, dinosaurs, the earth, and the solar system. Once a student has chosen a topic the site then provides them with a list of additional sites covering that specific topic. Date visited  6/3/06

Dino Directory provides a wide range of information about dinosaurs for students. A student can research hundreds of different dinosaurs. They can also learn about the time line of dinosaurs. This site also allows students to learn if a certain dinosaur lived in their country. Date visited- 6/3/06

StarChild is a site that is geared towards students interested in the solar system. It provides information about the solar system, the universe, and other space stuff. The site has also broken the information down into two levels. Date visited  6/3/06
