Introduction: Art criticism is a way to talk about art. It is important to know the four steps in art criticism. Knowing the four steps makes us knowledgeable in art. First you have to look at the facts; describe what you see. Secondly you must look at design; how the artwork put together. Then explain the meaning; the purpose of the artwork. The last step in criticizing art is judgment; your opinion of the artwork.

Problem/Information: You will visit two websites from different artist‘s. After reading about the artist and their artwork, you can explore the site more. There are games to play and activities to complete at each site. While on these sites, think about the elements of art criticism. It is time to think like a critic. When you are done with all the activities give me your judgment and compare the two sites.

Haring Kids- this site shows the artwork of Keith Haring. There is much to do on this site. So don’t get lost. Click on Keith and read his bio. You may also look at snapshots of his works. Click on Activities. You may create a Coloring book page of your own and play a Game, like tic-tac-toe. Also while at this site click on Art, go to the cities on the map to see more of Keith Haring’s artwork.

Print out any artwork that you created. Also print out one of Keith Haring’s artworks.

Now it is time to use that critical thinking. Describe the artwork that you printed out. What characteristics does it have? Explain line quality, use of color, and elements of design. Give me your opinion of the artist. What do you think about his style of art? The paper should be at least 100 words long.
