Using Technology to Enhance the Classroom Environment

Using Technology deals with enhancing the use of technology in the classroom when it comes to teaching and learning.  To use technology in the classroom, the basic arrangement should include a computer, a network connection, and a projection system.  This can be tedious for a teacher who will have to arrive to class early to set everything up.  A better way to utilize the teachers time to have laptops available so they are able to prepare ahead of time their lessons, demonstrations, etc.  Teachers are able to prepare lecture notes, software demonstrations, and simulations that can help make a topic become animated in a classroom.  A classroom in which the students were allowed laptops, you can have two classrooms in one.  With the laptop lids up it is a computer lab, lids down, it is a regular classroom.  Intertwining lecture with computers is a great way to engage the student in learning.  Yes, it does take more time to prepare a class when technology is used, and many questions should be asked beforehand, however students are enrichly rewarded in their learning.  When using laptops in your classroom, make sure it is in small classes (20 students or less), and instructors are able to assist those who are having trouble understanding.  This type of learning can be used in almost all content areas, so all teachers will be able to utilize it.

For a beginning or even technologically disadvantaged teacher this is a good article that can give you some of the basics when bringing technology into your classroom.  Students can get bored day after day if you are doing the same thing over and over again.  Technology is a great way to interact your students in learning, making it more fun.  Too many times students expect the same rote learning, and when you bring in demonstrations and simulations to show them, you can see how they perk up, and look like that they want to learn.  Yes, these lessons can take time, you don’t have to use them everyday, but I think it would make the classroom livelier and learning for your students much more interesting!
