This a selection of ten websites that provide worksheets and lessons that can be used in most Social Studies classrooms at the middle and high school levels.  They are listed in order of most useful to least useful.

 

Teach-nology:  This site has a great variety of worksheets dealing with many topics ranging from Ancient Greece to Modern times.  It is equipped with a worksheet generator that provides you with many settings and options to create what you need.  The “Today in History” and “Timeline” worksheets are especially useful.

Discovery School Worksheet Generator:  This site allows you to choose from over 300 pre-made Social Studies worksheets on a variety of subjects, but it’s primary function is to provide several templates which allow you to customize a worksheet to your own specifications.  Most of the templates deal with matching activities.  Geography is very well covered here.

Staff Room:  This primarily Canadian-themed site focuses on planning, teaching, and reporting exercises.  It has a great selection of guidelines with which to use in constructing worksheets as well as providing several examples of different scoring rubrics as well.  It has a very useful section on using technology in the classroom, also.

School Express:  This site provides 6500+ free worksheets on just about every subject taught.  In the area of Social Studies, most of the worksheets are geared towards the middle school level and concern lessons dealing with different countries.  Most of them are useful for the middle school level.

Awesome Library:  This site has a great variety of lesson plans, although most of the Social Studies assignments concern Ancient and U.S. History.

Teaching Heart:  This site has many different creative-themed and comprehension oriented worksheets for the middle and elementary school level.

Teacher Vision:  This site specializes in providing worksheets for holidays and historical events.  It also includes a decent selection of assessment and quiz types.

Unit Study Library:  Though this site only has a very small selection of worksheets, it includes a great selection of in-class maps and geography sheets for use in the classroom.

Splash Publications:  This site provides a fair number of free sample worksheets dealing with American History, but the site does charge for access to its complete catalog of worksheets.
