PUBLICATIONS
This is a short bibliography of some of the several
publication web sites on the Internet that have to deal with how the fields of
education and technology overlap to create new and innovative methods of
instruction in the classroom and beyond.
I have listed the web sites and links according to how useful I found
their articles to be. Though I am a
prospective Social Studies teacher, I found that many of the articles to be
applicable to teachers in any subject.
Educational Technology and
Society: This is the online
form of the Journal of the Forum of Educational Technology and Society. Many of the articles discuss cutting edge
technological advances in the teaching field.
The articles I read seemed very concerned with the practical application
of instructional technologies to the classroom. For this reason, I found the articles on this site to be very
helpful to me. Often teachers have
problems in working with students who have different learning styles, but some
of the techniques described here definitely provide a lot of interesting
options in presentation. Here is the
title of an article I read from this site that I found of interest to me.
“Supporting diverse
learners through a website for teaching research methods.”

Australian Journal of
Educational Technology: This is a
great web journal devoted to the use of technology in the classroom. I found articles on a wide variety of issues
involving technology including instruction, adaptation, and legal policy. This site also appeared to have decent
access to previous issues of the journal.
Again, I really liked this site for its many articles discussing how
technology can provide new and more interesting options in presenting material
to students. Here is an article that I
enjoyed on this site.
“Web CT and online
tutorials: New possibilities for student interaction.”

Educational Technology
Review: This site dealt
mainly with articles that discussed the impact of the increased use of
technology in the classroom. It is an
online journal as well. I liked this
site since a good majority of the articles dealt with educational technology
issues in other countries besides the United States. For the subject of Social Studies, these articles interested me a
great deal. Other nations sometimes
view technology in a different way than we do and it is important to be aware
of that. Here is the title of an
article I read from this site.
“Electronic Accessibility:
U.S. and International Perspectives.”

Converge: This publication site has more of an online
magazine feel than the other journal sites.
I found it useful in that it had several articles dealing with the legal
ramifications of technology in the classroom such as Internet privacy issues. It also included several pieces dealing with
educational technology issues around the world such as China and the Middle
East. It is updated on a regular basis
and the subjects they cover are usually very topical. Here is the title of an article I found to be very interesting on
this site.
“Online students tough,
focused.”

Harvard Educational
Review: This site wasn’t
useful so much in that it covered educational technology alone, but virtually
every issue related to education imaginable.
As a publication, it has existed for over 70 years and has an easy to
use search feature. I found this site
to deliver the most articles that concerned educational technology and Social
Studies together. Though, the articles
dealing with educational technology seemed to deal more with theories over
applications than those of the other web sites I looked at. Here is the title of an article that I found
to be of use to me.
“Globalization,
Immigration, and Education: The Research Agenda.”
