Web Drop-In #5

Introduction:

This assignment will concern the differences that exist in the major democratic systems around the world.  Not all of the democracies in the world operate their governments in the same way.  Just because our neighbor Canada is a democracy like the U.S. is doesn’t mean that they have a President too!  They have a Prime Minister.  Now, you might ask why is this?  Well, you’re going to have to read on…

Information/Problem:

Since not all democracies are created the same, it is up to you to see what the differences are.  You are to research the web sites listed below and find out what the similarities and differences are between the following types of democracies that exist in the world today.  You will examine the Presidential System as used in America and Mexico and the Semi-Presidential System used by France and Russia.  Finally, you will take a look at the Parliamentary System used by the United Kingdom and Canada.  Pay close attention to the differences and similarities you find in the way they set up their governments.

Semi-Presidential Systemhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semi-presidential_system

Parliamentary Systemhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parliamentarism

After you have researched these three systems, you then need to construct a Venn diagram comparing the similarities and differences between all three.  If you need help constructing a Venn diagram or aren’t quite sure what it is exactly, click on the link below for some helpful hints.
