Information About Reading Incentives--Media specialists have devised some very motivating programs to promote reading.  A link to my school's program would help new students and all parents learn more about the details.
  • Reading Incentive Links--example found on Huntingtown Elementary School site, http://www.calvertnet.k12.md.us/schools/hes/hes_media.html.  Another great idea for a reading incentive can be found at http://www.ccps.org/calv/media/bkclub.html
Recommended Books--Every student can benefit from a list of exciting books recommended by reading level and/or interest area.  Links to authors will further enhance students' interest.
  • Recommended Books List--example found on Dr. James Craik Elementary School site, http://www.ccboe.com/craik/Library%20Media%20Page%20Index.htm
Online Reference Sites--Search engines and curriculum links should be easily accessed from the media center site.  This way, teachers can see the activities and resources of other grade levels, and students can have one centralized location throughout their elementary school years.
  • Links to Online Reference Sites--example found on Brookhaven Elementary School site, http://www.mcps.k12.md.us/schools/brookhavenes/mediacenter.htm
Media Class Projects--Like an online bulletin board, this is a great way to inform the school community about the goals and accomplishments of the media program by grade level.  Ideally, student work can be published here, too.
  • Link to Media Class Projects Page--example found on Calvert Elementary School site, http://www.ccps.org/calv/media/media.html
Media Center News Page--Events like Dr. Seuss's birthday and the arrival of new books can be announced at this linked page to build excitement throughout the school year.
  • Media Center News--example found on Brookhaven Elementary School site, http://www.mcps.k12.md.us/schools/brookhavenes/mediacenter.htm
Links to Media Curriculum and Information Literacy Standards--this link may not be heavily used, but it provides a reminder that the school's media specialist works in an organized and professional manner to develop media skills and promote literacy.
  • Links to Relevant Standards--example found on Cecil Manor Elementary School site, http://www.ccps.org/cecilm/media%20page/mediacenter.html
Interactive Map of School Library/Media Center--This link can help with fall orientation to the library and its web site simultaneously.  Students will use the map repeatedly if the linked information about library features changes as curricular units change.
  • Map of School Library--example found on Calvert Elementary School Site, http://www.ccps.org/calv/media/media.html
Web Safety Information--This site can help teach important skills throughout the year.  Having it as a primary link serves to stress the importance of safe internet use at home, too.
  • Web Safety Information--example found on Dr. James Craik Elementary site, http://www.ccboe.com/craik/Library%20Media%20Page%20Index.htm
Question and Answer Page--many student questions could be answered by posting them here, providing a short reading for information activity when a student's memory fails.
