On-Line Games

My original plan was to get on the Internet and play games for an hour. Two hours later, I am finally writing my summary, and that is only because my brother needed his computer. I have two distinct feelings about these on-line games. First of all, they are addictive. I know I would have continued playing longer if my brother hadn’t wanted his computer! I now understand why my students spend so much time on the computer at night. Secondly, I think the two player games may be inappropriate for younger children. I will explain that later when I discuss the one game that I played. I feel that parents need to monitor the games their children play!

I first played the game Word Whomp. I found this game on the Pogo site, http://www05.pogo.com/. This is a word game that has three levels, and you make words! I can honestly say that I was impressed with this game and gained in knowledge from it! There were many vocabulary words that I didn’t know!

I started with the Word Whomp game, because I was intimidated to play with someone else on-line. I enjoyed this game and will play again. I am not sure why I was so apprehensive about playing a game on-line with someone else, but I was. I know tons of people who do it al the time and love it. I think I was scared of what they would say!

I then played the game Dots with another player at the Yahoo game site, http://games.yahoo.com . I won once and lost another time. This was my first experience and enjoyed it, but found the comments from the person I was playing with a little rude. I had fun, but at the same time found the language used inappropriate for younger children!

Over all my experience was a positive one! I just hope that I don’t use these games as a procrastination route!
