Grade 2K Richards Elementary

http://www.geocities.com/marykreul/2Kschool/

This site provides information for a second grade classroom.  There isn’t any particular subject matter, but just general information for people interested in discovering what the second grade is involved with throughout the year.

Commendations:

First, the website is attractive with cute background and graphics.  The viewer isn’t overwhelmed with colors and pictures all over.  Second, it provides extensive information, with links to everything from the curriculum to homework, student work, parent information and a tour of the school.  And finally, it is well organized and easy to navigate.

Recommendations:

First I would suggest that only the more relevant information remain on the site.  There are several links that I would consider extraneous (the weather, map of the town, etc).  Also, it may be helpful to have the major assignments listed that are to be completed throughout the year, along with the grading rubrics.  And finally, it would be nice to have a place for discussion so that parents may post questions they have.

This site is a link to a 4th grade classroom at Lee Richmond Elementary School.  It provides multiple links that prove useful in generating ideas and answering questions.

  Commendations:

First, the site provides an example of a typical day in the classroom.  I feel this is beneficial for parents and other interested community members because it allows them to view firsthand how the students spend their day.  It also has a link for the homework policy, which is great because students do not always inform their parents of what the teacher’s expectations are regarding homework.  And finally, there is a list included of resources the teacher uses, as well as other student work so that parents may have an understanding of the teacher’s methods and how assignments are to be completed.

Recommendations:

Although the site provides many useful items, there are several recommendations I would like to make.  To begin with, the site needs more graphics.  Currently it looks rather dull and uninteresting to the viewer.  Also, more links could be provided for things such as internet resources for parents and students to use to locate additional information on topics, or just other activities they may enjoy completing.  And finally, the site could be made more friendly-ie, provide a welcome for the viewer, a place for people to post discussions, etc.
