Kenya

Kenya is a land full of diversity-both of people and animals.  People travel there from all over the world to explore the country and to go on safaris in the country.  The more information a visitor is able to gather before traveling to the country will ensure a more satisfying trip.  It is most helpful to learn something of the culture and language before leaving for vacation.

Today you are taking a trip to Kenya.  However, before leaving, you must first find out a few things about the country.  For this activity you will need to determine which language Kenyans speak, what the capital city of Kenya is, it’s size, whether or not it is an independent country, and if it is, when it became independent.  You will also need to locate the bordering countries of Kenya and name 3 of its’ cities.

Go to the website http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0107678.html and read through the information listed.  Then, using that information, answer the following questions.

1.      Where is Kenya located?  Which continent?  Where on the continent?

2.      What is the national language of Kenya?

3.      What is the capital of Kenya?  Using the map of Kenya, find the capital and locate 3 nearby cities.  Name these cities.

4.      Is Kenya independent?  If so, when did it gain it’s independence?

5.      List the countries that border Kenya.

6.  On the left of the screen, scroll down to Religions.  You will see a series of religions with a percentage listed next to each one.  Make a pie chart detailing the religions found in Kenya.  Use the following categories and their related percentages:  Roman Catholic, Protestant, traditional, Islam and others.
