As healthcare providers, it is important that we are certain that our patients understand us, and that we understand them. In the optimal situation, we would always have a translator available. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. This lesson is designed to give you information on how you can overcome this barrier to providing services. Using this site, each student is required to create a social history evaluation in the language you were issued in class. (include all areas including living situation, education, responsibilities ect..) This should be done in a chart format as demonstrated below. One side of the chart should indicate the English phrase, the other side should indicate the phrase in the foreign language in which you were issued. There must be at least ten phrases identified. These are to be brought to class on week 10 for review by instructor and peers. Please bring enough copies of your project for each classmate and your instructor.
