My Top Search Engines

General Search Engines

Google:  Google is my top pick for search engines because it is fast and accurate with high relevancy to my search topic.  Another positive is that there are no sponsored links to sift through at the top of the search page.  This search engine can be used for all of my search needs from personal to professional.  As far as general search engines go, I choose Google as my #1 pick.

Yahoo:  Yahoo is my second pick for general search engines for the same reasons that apply to google.  Yahoo is relatively fast and demonstrates a high relevancy to my search topic. Yahoo can be used for both personal and professional searches on general topics.

News Search Engines

Google News:  Once again google wins in the search engine department.  Google news provides a fast service, varied news sources and complete information on the search topic.  This search engine can be used to look for recent news events of interest in my personal and professional life.

Find Articles:  This search engine allows people to search specific articles from a large variety of periodicals.  I like this engine because I can search any periodical of my liking without spending hours on the net.  If you know what your looking for, this engine is the one for you.

Medical Search Engines

Med Hunt:  Med Hunt is an excellent search engine for medical professionals.  It provides information on a large array of health topics.  This engine is fast, has high relevance, provides a variety of information, and has complete information.

Medical World:  Medical World gets a top rating by default.  This engine provides complete medical information for the medical professional.  The down side to this engine is that you must register and pay an annual fee to fully use it’s services.  The reason that it was chosen by default is that there are limited medical search engines, and even fewer in the English language.  Additionally, it is common place to find that medical search engines require a fee.

Government Search Engines

Google Government Search:  As with all google search engines, this one is tops.  This search engine provides fast and accurate links to all of the government sites including local government.  This is useful to me in looking up new disability guidelines.

Search Gov:  This search engine also is fast and reliable for searching government information.  This site also provides information for local, state and federal agencies.  This site is equally as good as the google search for government information and actually has links which may even make it easier to use.

Shopping Search Engines

MSN Shopping:  I like msn shopping because they have comparison shopping and provide a buyers guide and advice.  Although I can honestly say that I don’t do much shopping for work this way, I definitely like to shop for myself this way.

Froogle:  Froogle is the google of shopping.  Need I say more.  Froogle has the same benefits as msn, but without the buyers guide and recommendations portion.  I don’t know that this site is necessarily better than many of the other sites, but it gets my vote for coolest name.
