Web Link Bibliography
Web link bibliographY

This web bibliography is created for my own purposes as I am not yet
teaching. It will be used to access all types of information regarding
Shakespeare, since I will be teaching English at the secondary level. Not
only will it contain useful background information about Shakespeare, but also
links to possible ideas for lesson plans. I do plan to add on to this,
especially the lesson plan section.
Shakespeare Biographies
Gale
Free Resources - This site is contains a one page
biography of Shakespeare’s life. It can be used to quickly access information
on his general background. It also has links on the side on how to write
a term paper. It can be easily read by students in the secondary level.

Britannia Biographies -
Even though this site contains a biography that is only four
paragraphs, it is useful because it chronologically lists all of Shakespeare’s
plays. Below this the site provides fifteen links to further Shakespeare
sites. This could be a useful tool to students who want to quickly access
good information without having to spend time searching all over the
Internet.

Infoplease -
This is an encyclopedia site that contains an article that discusses
Shakespeare's life, plays, and poetry. It ends with a critical
opinion. The site also gives links to some reviews of films of his plays.
This could be a good resource to find out which films are worth viewing in the
classroom. This site is good to keep for personal use, but I would
not share it with students. Date visited - 9/26/2004

The Open Door Web
Site - This site would be a good introduction to Shakespeare for
sixth graders as it is extremely basic and focus's mainly on the theater part
of his life. It could be easily read by six graders. It would not
be suitable for 9th-12th grade students. This site also contains a link
to a living history project. Date visited - 9/26/2004

Shakespeare Resources
- This site contains over twenty-five links to online Shakespeare
resources. Although there was a link that was not able to be viewed and one
that did not have the information it said it did, this site is worth saving as
it contains a link to a pictorial biography of Shakespeare which could be used
in a lesson with secondary students. Date visited - 9/26/2004

Mr. William
Shakespeare and the Internet - This site is intended to
give the best information of Shakespeare that was not previously found on the
Internet. It also has links to the "best" sites available on
the Internet. I would rate this site as average; however, it is worth
holding onto as it contains information on Shakespeare's genealogy and a good
timeline summary chart that would be useful for students at some point.
It has an educational link that gives links to sources where you can buy non-printable
Shakespeare items like CD's and posters for classrooms. Date visited -

Shakespeare's plays
Shakespeare's
Life & Times - This site was actually created for students
at the secondary level. It is divided into ten "books" such as
"Shakespeare's life" and "some plays explored".
When you click on a "book", it is then divided into
"chapters", with each chapter containing further links. I would
rate this site as an excellent one for both personal use and for students to
use. It even has a sound file so students can hear the "opening
fanfare" to a play. Date visited - 9/26/2004

eNotes - This is an
extensive site that is a great tool for secondary students. It contains
eNotes on every one of Shakespeare's plays that include summaries, analysis,
and criticisms. It also includes a good overview of the complete
world of Shakespeare in a link called "Shakespeare A-Z". It can
also be a good site to research quality film adaptations for students to
view as it lists the twenty best films of Shakespeare's plays. Date

Plot Summaries -
This site contains straightforward summaries of the plots of ten of Shakespeare’s
better known plays. It also contains links for reviews of the plays and
for a breakdown of the characters. Secondary students could read this site;
however, they probably would not pick this site as a favorite. Date

Encyclopedia
Britannica/ Shakespeare and the Globe - This site contains
audiovisual features of Shakespeare's plays. You can hear one or two
minute readings of some of the more well known lines of the plays and you can watch some
of the more famous scenes from these plays as well. This site is a good
one to refer to when considering those students who learn better from seeing and
hearing the content. Since Shakespeare's plays were intended to be heard
and seen and not read this is an important site to hold onto for the
classroom. These clips are better suited for the secondary level as most
of them are old readings from the 1930’s and contain old clips as
well. They might not be too interesting for middle school students.

British Library
- This site contains the British Library's original copies of 21
of Shakespeare's plays that were printed before the theaters closed in 1642 due
to the plague. This is a good site to give to secondary students so they
can see the "authentic" documents firsthand. The site also has
a link called the "afterlife' which compares these copies to the ones
published later. Date visited - 9/26/2004
