Venn
Diagrams
Walt Whitman highly
respected the works of Ralph Waldo Emerson and Emerson highly respected the
works of Whitman. Even though the two poets have different styles of writing
they both wrote about a lot of the same topics. Your job for this web drop in will be to
create a Venn diagram comparing and contrasting the topics of two of their poems.
Activity
1.
You will read Whitman’s
poem “Song of Myself”
and Emerson’s poem “World-Soul”.
2.
During and after reading
the poems jot down the topics you come across and the specific lines
where you found the topics.
3.
Go to Microsoft Word and
open a new page. Type your name in
the upper left corner. Click
“Insert”,
click “Diagram”, and choose the Venn Diagram.
4.
Fill in the diagram with
the topics that you found in the poems that were similar and different. You
will use your Venn diagram to help you compose a short paper later this week.
