To locate newsletters that deal with the grade level that I will be teaching I used the search query “educational newsletters” and choose 1 that deals with educational news and issues and 1 that deals with teaching secondary level students. The two e-newsletters that I chose to subscribe to are called Current Issues in Education and Creative Teaching Techniques. I already subscribe to a really good educational e-newsletter that my EDU 613 instructor found for our class called the ASCD SmartBrief.

Creative Teaching Techniques is a brand new publication that just became available in September 2004. Published by the National Teaching Press, it is written especially for secondary teachers. Its articles deal with issues such as developing creative and effective ways to deliver instruction, lesson-openers, injecting humor into daily lessons, and teacher resources to name a few. Since it is new there were no sample issues to view online, however its content is very applicable to my area and since it is easy to subscribe and unsubscribe to I was not hesitant to try it out. So far I have received one issue and it was very useful. In fact I printed it out so I can save it for future use. I would highly recommend this newsletter for secondary teachers. It can be found at http://www.teachingtechniques.com .
If you like to receive a daily dose of educational mail the ACSD SmartBrief is definitely a newsletter worth subscribing to. I t boasts to help cut through the information overload as it provides quick easy- to- read summaries of the top news in the education world. If you see an article that would be especially interesting the summaries contain links to the full article. I would highly recommend this newsletter which is free as well. It can be found at http://www.smartbrief.com/ascd/ .
