Five Ideas on How to Use Key Pals

in a

Second Grade Classroom

1. Pretend that you are a caterpillar that just arrived to your classroom.  Let your key pal know how you are changing. (science)

2. You have just completed the second grade “Fairy Tales” unit.  Share with your key pal you what your favorite fairy tale was and why. (reading)

3.    Pretend that you are the main character in your favorite book.  Let your key pal know what is happening in your life. (reading)

4.    You are being taught how to write to persuade.  Pick a topic of your choice (yet approved by your teacher) and attempt to persuade your key pal. (writing)

5.    We are learning about landmarks in the United States.  Write to inform your key pal about your favorite landmark.  (Social Studies)

6.    Gather data about a topic of your choice.  Graph your data.  Share the results of your survey with your key pal. (math)
