Email can be an effective way to communicate with people.  It is important that you learn how to effectively communicate using email. 

 

Suggestions for an effective email experience…

 

1.   Communication via email is more like when you are talking to a person in real life.

2.  Give a clear clue about the topic of your email in the subject line.  

3.  Keep your message short and to the point.  Express the main ideas.

4. Be careful about how you express your emotions when you send an email.  You can use punctuation marks, graphics o smileys to express how you feel.

5.  Proofread your email and make sure it sounds right and makes sense.

6. Use lively language.  You can also use acronyms such as LOL.  This means to laugh out loud.

7. Use your best capitalization and punctuation.

8.   Always be mindful of online safety.  Never given personal information to others.  This includes your birthday, address and telephone number.

9. If you get an email from someone you don’t know, do not open it.  Show it to an adult and let him or her advice you.

10.                   Learn about the culture of a key pal from another country.  Make sure you say things in a way that won’t make the key pal upset and feel disrespected.

 

 

What can go wrong when you are using email…?

 

o    Make sure that you are happy with your email before you hit the “Send” button.

o    Your email will be sent only if you hit send.  If you close the email program before send your message, it may be saved or you may end up loosing what you have written.
