The following bibliography was created to provide information and resources for physical educators. Ideas, articles, research, standards, lesson plans, and information can all be found on one or many of these web pages. The list is categorized in a way that makes information easy to find. I hope all physical education teachers will find these links useful and of good quality.

 

 

 

General PE Links

 

PE Central- This site provides numerous lesson plans (categorized by grade and activity type) and assessments. There are pages for information on adapted pe, preschool pe, and class management. Professional resources, current research, helpful website links, and media information are all available for current physical educators. A job search is also helpful for those trying to break into the physical education profession. This site does it all and is extremely helpful and well organized. www.pecentral.org

 

PBS Teachers: Health and Fitness- This is a great source for lesson plans and articles. Ideas for projects, online activities and videos on various topics are also available. This site is a useful teaching resource. www.pbs.org/teachers/healthfitness/

 

Teach PE- This site focuses on providing information on anatomy and physiology, sports psychology, sports coaching, and training and fitness. Diagrams, links, handouts, resources and teaching ideas are all very helpful tools provided for the information. www.teachpe.com

 

 

Fitness Links

 

PresidentŐs Challenge- The PresidentŐs Challenge is a program of the PresidentŐs Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. The challenge, and this website, is designed to motivate all Americans to become and stay physically active. The website provides an online activity log and downloadable information on how to implement and use the program. www.presidentschallenge.org

 

Kids Running- This site is very kid-friendly and easy to use. The site provides information, inspiration and pictures to promote and motivate running among kids. This is a great tool to make running fun for kids. www.kidsrunning.com

 

 

Lesson Plan Links

 

Teaching Unit Plans- This site contains unit plans created by PE majors and minors at Central Washington University. It includes teaching information for adapted PE, coaching and sports, elementary PE, health, fitness, and nutrition, and secondary PE. Lesson Plans Page- This site provides great quality lesson plans for the PE teacher. The lesson plans are first separated by grade level and then categorized by the type of activity (games and relay, health and fitness, sports, etc.). An added benefit of this site is the availability of lessons, which incorporate other subjects like art, music, language arts, and science. www.lessonplanspage.com/PE.htm

 

Education World- This site provides fewer lesson plans but good quality plans at the same time. The lesson plans are easy to find because they are organized by games, exercise/movement, and team sports. American Association for Physical Activity and Recreation (AAPAR)- This site provides quality information on upcoming workshops and professional development for educators. Current media information and research articles can also be found on this site. http://iweb.aahperd.org/aapar

 

American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD)- This organization is an alliance of five national associations and six district associations. The site provides resources, support and programs to help improve skills of educators and coaches. www.aahperd.org

 

American Association for Health Education (AAHE)- This site, although requires a membership, provides an abundance of quality information regarding professional development, current issues, and upcoming programs and events for the physical educator. www.aahperd.org/AAHE/

 

National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE)- This site is useful for physical educators to enhance knowledge and improve professional practice. Quality research regarding physical education can be found as well as current national PE standards. www.aahperd.org/naspe/#

Adapted Physical Education National Standards (APENS)- This site provides a wealth of information for adapted physical educators. Information is also provided on becoming a Nationally Certified Adapted Physical Educator. www.apens.org

 

State Council on Adapted Physical Education- This site provides helpful information and useful links about adapted PE facts, assessment tools, available jobs in the field and more. http://sc-ape.org/

 

LD Online- This site is the leading website on learning disabilities and ADHD. Information is provided specific to educators. Topics covered include instructional strategies, teaching issues, and resources. www.ldonline.org/educators

Teach PE: Coaching- This site provides general coaching information, drills and how to deal with common injuries. The sports covered include football, soccer, basketball, rugby, netball, track and field, hockey, badminton, and tennis. www.teachpe.com/sports_coaching.php

 

Y-Coach- This site provides a wealth of general information on youth sports. The site focuses on general conditioning and athletic development as well as coaching instruction of specific sports.  The sports included on this site are basketball, baseball, football, cheerleading, softball, soccer, tennis, track and field, volleyball, hockey, and lacrosse. Health and Nutrition Links

 

Health Teacher- This site provides topics and skills for a health teacher to use in class. Sample lesson plans and teaching standards are also found on this site. The links to popular lessons are helpful. This site is specifically for educators but a membership is required. www.healthteacher.com

 

American Heart Association: ChildrenŐs Exercise and Nutrition- This childrenŐs specific page includes information on programs like Jump Rope for Heart and Hoops for Heart, which can be used in physical education classes. Kidnetic- This site provides nutrition and health eating information for kids aged 9-12. Kidnetic is great for encouraging kids and their families to begin a healthy lifestyle. The site is very kid-friendly and includes games and pictures. www.kidnetic.com

 

Smart Mouth- This is another great kid-friendly site used to teach nutrition. The interactive site includes healthy recipes, nutrition facts, fast food information, video clips, and brainteasers. American Lung Association- This site provides resources and information on asthma and other lung diseases, tobacco control, and environmental health. The latest news can be found on this site. www.lungusa.org
