Sites for English Teachers
The internet is a very useful tool for educators. That is why I've put together this list of websites for English/Language Arts educators. I have found many of these sites extremely useful, as a student and future teacher. These sites contain a great deal of information regarding teaching, lesson planning, language resources, authors, poets, and literature. This list is by no means exhaustive, and will continue to grow as I continue my career in education.
Teaching & Lesson Plans
The sites below are some of the sites I've found very useful for exploring creative teaching ideas. These sites contain information about lesson planning, education news, and provide networking resources for teachers.
This site is a great wealth of information for English Language Arts teachers. The site contains a number of lesson plans, information on authors and literature, as well as graphic organizers, and writing tools. The site has planning tools for elementary through high school. Date visited - 10/15/09

Voluntary State Curriculum - School Improvement in Maryland
This site contains curriculum standards for teachers of all subject areas. The standards are very useful in helping teachers plan course and lesson objectives. Most Maryland schools adhere to the VSC standards, so it would behoove Maryland teachers to frequently reference this site. This is the official site for the association of teachers of English, literacy, and language arts. The site contains information on joining the association, lesson plans, journal subscriptions, and more. The site is created for teachers for elementary through high school grades. The site contains a number of articles that deal with the various issues of incorporating technology into the classroom. This is the site of Merriam-Webster's online dictionary. This is a very useful tool for teachers and students alike. Though their unabridged dictionary is subscription-based, students and teachers may use this to look up words in an abridged version. Compiled by former poet laureate Billy Collins, there are 180 poems on the site meant to be read and discussed with students for the 180 days of the school year. Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA)
This is the official site of the Young Adult Library Services Association, or YALSA. This organization post a yearly list of notable books for young adult readers, including books that have won a number of awards. This site is an excellent resource for teaching the work of Edgar Allan Poe. The site contains a biography, a timeline, a gallery of photos, short stories, and poetry.
