Standard Two   Teaching and Learning

I. Knowledge of Learners and Learning        II. Effective and Knowledgeable Teacher

III. Information Literacy Curriculum

Through a process of reading, thinking, researching and creating, a media specialist will help further student learning throughout the curriculum. I will collaborate on lessons and resources with my fellow teachers by attending department meetings and perusing curriculum guides to determine lessons we as a team can teach.  Working both one-on-one and with each department, I will strive to integrate information literacy in all curricular areas.

Artifact and Reflection

The WebQuest for Girl with a Pearl Earring was developed while I was working at James Hubert Blake High School, with their Humanities curriculum and media center resources in mind. I further developed the lesson for the Curriculum Design course, enhancing it into an entire unit within the high school humanities curriculum.  Students read the novel and research an artist from the same time period as Vermeer.  After selecting an artist to study, students then choose a painting by their artist and they complete the project as if they were a character within the painting.  By using online resources, print resources, and the art posters available in the media center, students gather biographical and historical information about the artist they have chosen and create a PowerPoint slide show to present to the class.  The lesson can be modified into an assignment where art can be researched on the Internet instead of having the print of the famous work on hand. The Girl with a Pearl Earring WebQuest is an example of how I plan to incorporate technology to promote efficient and equitable access to information beyond print resources, and how I will assist students to use technology to access, analyze and present information.
