Search Engines
Searching for links to arts and
humanities-related resources
This site is incredible! In addition to the Visual Arts and Art
History, VOS is a search engine that provides links to tons of
humanities-related resources such as Anthropology, Dance, Architecture, and
Cyberculture on the Internet. Students and teachers from the elementary,
middle, and high school grades will find this site immensely helpful.
Art on the Web features more than 1,200 links related to art and
architecture. Visitors are able to search the fine art pages by keywords, or
through the index, which includes an Art Education category that all teachers
should check out. Teachers should also bookmark the page with links to web
museum sites.

Searching for Images
Picsearch is a search engine for pictures and images of virtually
anything a student or teacher might need. What really makes this the best
option for the classroom is the siteıs use of advanced filtering systems that
allow children to surf in safety as all offensive material is filtered out.
http://www.picsearch.com/
Google Image Search scours the web for images of absolutely
anything you can (or would never) conceive of. The site allows you to select
the level of filtering; Moderate SafeSearch is the default. Even with the
strictest filter in place, inappropriate images are fairly easy to obtain
because the picture files often have bizarre names that have nothing to do with
the actual image.

Searching for general information about Artists
This comprehensive site searches for information and images for
over 8,000 famous painters, sculptors and photographers, at art museum sites
& image archives worldwide. The Fine
Art Search Engine is searchable by artist name, title, and location. You
can also search by art movement, medium, subject, nationality and women
artists.

This site allows you to easily search for biographical
information and images by artist or art movement. The artist bios feature links
to related artists and their works. This site is especially helpful when
searching for information about 20th century artists.

Searching for Art Supplies
In business since 1911, Dick Blick Art Materials currently has 34
stores, a 480-page art supplies catalog, and an Internet site that sells more
than 30,000 separate art supply items for the fine artist and art educator. You
can search for items by department, alphabetically, or simply by entering what
you are looking for in the search window. Offering school discounts, Blick is
the perfect place for art teachers to purchase classroom supplies. The website
also features lesson plans and educator forums for teachers.
Pearl Art and Craft Supply is the worldıs largest discount art
supplier. For more than 70 years, Pearl has continued the tradition of low
prices and large selection through 21 retail locations serving large art
markets. The website is very well designed, allowing visitors to search
alphabetically, by brand, by department, or by entering a specific item. Many
famous artists purchase their supplies from Pearl; I would recommend this site
to high school and college students, as well as artists and teachers that
create art outside of the classroom.

Searching for Art Books
Powell's Books operates seven locations in the Portland
metropolitan area and one of the book world's most successful websites.
Powells.com allows you to search more than 145 specific categories of
incredible art books, many of which are often hard-to-find. Just as impressive
is the siteıs huge selection of rare and autographed 1st edition
books. The only downfall I could see was usually having to pay full price for
the books.

Amazon offers the best prices by far on all types of art books.
Though the site is not as organized as Powellıs (with the fabulous categories),
you should be able to find any art title you may need as a teacher or student.
Purchasing books on Amazon.com is unbelievably easy and shipping is often free.
