Publications
This is a
monthly newspaper developed to provide news and information necessary to help
K-12 decision-makers use technology and the Internet to transform schools and
achieve educational goals. A simple search with the key word art, produced 320 results – nearly ten
times more than most other educational publications that I experimented with.
From this search, I was able to find an article about an amazing interactive
website that I had never discovered during my research on the best art Web
sites.

Edweek.org
features Education Week,
American education's newspaper of record, and Teacher Magazine. Both publications focus on local,
state, and national news and issues from preschool through the 12th grade. I
was very impressed with how many relevant and interesting art-related articles
my search query produced. I feel this site is intended for use by educators,
but a few of the articles that I read could definitely be incorporated into
high school level art discussions.

American
School Board Journal - asbj.com
Asbj.com offers
practical advice on a broad range of topics pertinent to school governance and
management, policy-making, student achievement, and the art of school
leadership. In addition, the journal covers education news, school law, and
research. The Web site is very user-friendly, featuring articles that are more
current and readable than
many of the other publications sites I visited. The March 2005 issue provides a
fantastic special report called Prescription for Health, which features
articles on topics such as AD/HD and how it interferes with learning. This topic
is very important to art teachers, as the art room is often a very energetic
and distracting environment for students.

Americans for
the Arts is the nation's leading nonprofit organization for advancing the arts
in America. Art Teachers will find the Americans for the Arts bookstore and
Online Resource Center for Arts Education in Public Schools particularly
helpful. The Online Library offers
access to informative publications, newsletters and Monographs published by
Americans for the Arts. Articles on this site are much more relevant to me and
my content area because they all have to do with some aspect of art or art
education.

- Working Relationships: The Arts, Education and Community Development

Artdaily.com is
proud to be the First Art Newspaper on the Net and has much to offer art professionals,
students, and anyone that loves art. This avant-garde publication features
anecdotes by famous artists, links to nearly every museum that offers a website
in the world, and a fantastic search engine. Although Artdaily is not a
scholarly publication, the articles are phenomenal and always current. This
site is more relevant for me than most publications because it is about all
types of art and information can easily be incorporated into lessons.
