Citing Internet Sources – Elective # 5
After reviewing the four MLA style websites, I have decided that I would have my students use the Write Source at http://thewritesource.com/mla.htm. The introduction on the site explains why the MLA citation is necessary, and where the style of documentation can be found. This background information gives the student some insight into why the format has been created using this certain style. I think that this overview allows the student to see how the system is organized, which may help them see understand the format of the citation.
This site would be useful for students because it has many examples of different styles of citations that students could use for a class project. It includes examples from website articles, government documents, discussion lists, and email messages to name a few. The format of the website is upbeat due to the colorful tabs and the cartoon characters that are found on the first page of the site. I think this is important because the colors and characters act as a lure to make learning fun. As the student explores this site, they will find useful information throughout the site.
