My Search Engine Rankings
Best General Search Engine:
Google – The best overall search engine is by far Google. I have used Google extensively throughout my college career and it has never let me down. Google searches are able to provide a wide variety of information that fully covers the desired search. The results cover what you searched for and far beyond, so some research on the results may be necessary. This is however, the most reliable site I have found to date and I highly recommend it.

Yahoo – The next best overall search engine is Yahoo. Yahoo is great for finding information that I need for everyday. I can look up movies and news along with general information and have my search result immediately. Yahoo is not the greatest with my educational searches, but for more general one’s I find it to be very helpful.

Best
MetaCrawler – I really like this search engine as a major time saver. When I type in my search, MetaCrawler uses many of the search engines I normally go to, except it is able to search them all at once. I am especially pleased with the speed in which the results come back. MetaCrawler is great to use when you want to search many sites at the same time.

Dogpile – I like this search engine as much as I like MetaCrawler. Once again, this site is a great tool to use when you want to search multiple sites at the same time. I found the search results to be very helpful for my queries. I think this is a great site for research for school and everyday.

Best Kids Search Engine:
Yahooligans – I think this is a great site for kids since it is easy to use and very helpful. This is also a great site for parents because they can trust that their children will be safe searching the internet. Children can search the internet for whatever they want, but access is limited only to pages that are deemed appropriate for their age group. As a plus, the website provides links to games and other entertainment so they don’t have to feel restrained in their internet use.

Ask Jeeves Kids – I think that this is a great resource site for kids to use. They can put in there question, and then a list of suggested questions by “Jeeves” will pop up so they can modify their search criteria if needed. This is any easy site for kids to use, and can help them learn to navigate the web by showing the kids how to mold their search criteria to find what they want.

Best Academic Research site:
Infomine – This is a great research tool for teachers and students in grades 11-12 and college. There are scholarly papers that can be easily found on a wide variety of subjects and are free to access unlike many other sites. In addition, site also provides searching options that allow you to search using MetaCrawler so you can find results on the web at the same time.

Librarian’s Index – This is a good site for students and educators to use. Students can find information on various subject matters and since it is compiled by librarians, the source is credible. This site provides searchers with a variety of information types, from articles to interactive lessons, which can be very helpful for those who are looking for more than the common article form of information. I think this site is especially helpful for those who are unsure of what they are researching since they will not have to decide how legitimate the information they are receiving is.

Best Shopping Search Engine:
Online Shopping Mall - This is an awesome site for all shoppers. Dealwiz allows me to search multiple sites, similar to those of Dogpile and MetaCrawler, for the same item. The results I receive from my searches provide me with sites that I can peruse to my shopping delight. I enjoy the speed an accuracy with which Dealwiz returns my search results. This is a great site to shop on.

The Closet Shopper – This is a great site for those who want to shop online and have multiple stores to choose from at one site. This site can save a lot of search time due to its easy organization and multiple links to favorite stores.
