Literature Lesson Plans
The Internet is an excellent
way to tap into the thousands of ideas posted by gifted educators around the
world. Below are sites that are available to help the secondary English teacher
with literature lesson plans.
Discovery School.com – This detailed site provides
lesson plans for an eclectic list of literature. From Dante’s Inferno to
Twain’s The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, these lesson plans include
objectives, materials needed, and the specific procedures. Visit this site when
teaching a new piece of literature or just looking for ways to spice up current
lessons.

Lesson
Plans Page – This site is useful because of the range of lessons available.
It offers plans for beginning motivational activities, during reading
strategies, and final projects. The varied lessons will also appeal to the
different types of classroom learners. Included are plans involving drawing,
music, writing and speaking.

Lesson Planz.com – Wow! This site offers lesson
plans ranging from current young adult literature to classic literature.
Rostand’s Cyrano de Bergerac is addressed as well as Crutcher’s Chinese
Handcuffs. Many of the lessons integrate technology in the form of Internet
research or a project centered on a Web Quest.

The National
Council of Teachers of English – Take advantage of the lesson plan support
offered by the largest organization for English teachers. These lessons include
detailed instruction as well as the specific age group/type of learner
targeted. These lessons are not afraid to tackle heated issues such as
homosexuality and politics. Each lesson plan includes the name and contact
information for the teacher responsible for the ideas.

AskERIC – Although this site did not have the large
amount of lesson plans as other sites, the selection was diverse. These lesson
plans go beyond recall activities of the literature and focus on areas such as
symbolism, allegories and character analysis. The links provided throughout
this site are one more reason to visit and purse the information.
