After visiting the four Modern Language Association (MLA) sites, I was not impressed with any of them. The Classroom Connect site was not specific enough in providing examples of the different type of digital resources. The Write Source site had an awkward long and narrow screen that I felt was difficult to read. Indiana University’s site did not offer a wide variety of the various digital resources on the web. I was pleased with the solid links provided by Lafayette College’s site. The Modern Language Association site was the most disappointing. One would think it would be the ultimate resource for documentation, but it basically encourages one to buy the latest edition of the handbook. Although the site does provide a list of frequently asked questions, it does not include a thorough discussion of the various digital resources.
The site I found the most user friendly was from a link from Lafayette’s site. The site www.bedfordstmartins.com/online/citex.html provides clear examples and explanation of a wide variety of sites found on the internet. For example, it supplies examples on how to document emails, books on the internet, articles in an electronic journal, and listservs. It offers step-by-step instructions on what to include based on the information given. This site also makes available a solid list of links from the examples given.
**I found it frustrating that there were discrepancies on how to document the resources based on which site I visited. Will the real MLA version please stand up**
