will be taking two journeys. You are going to step into the shoes
of a slave that is trying to escape to freedom.
The Journey Begins

- You are going to compare and contrast these two
journeys.
- Start by answering these
questions on this chart
(Print it out).
- How are they similar?
- How are they different?
- What did you find
interesting?
- What did you find
scary?
- Was one journey
harder than the other? Why or why not?
- Now, imagine that you are on the
journey of the Underground Railroad in the 1800's. Using the
information that you have just discovered write a detailed short story
or diary entries about your journey to freedom. Share your hopes
and dreams, your fears and doubt. Share your struggles and
triumphs.
- Projects will be orally presented in class in 3 days. The
presentation must be 5 - 10 minutes. I encourage you to make
props of artifacts, secret codes, etc. that have helped you along your
journey.
