GENERAL SEARCH ENGINES
1.  Google
     This is one of the largest general search engines on the web.  This Search Engine is great because  it  searches fast and lists more than one website for your topic.  With Google, you can always search within your search to narrow your ideas down and find what you are looking for even faster!

   Yahoo! is an all inclusive site.  Their homage gives you tons of information ~ from financing to  shopping, to hot jobs, to movie reviews!  You name it and Yahoo! has it!  You can even get your very own  FREE email account at Yahoo!

META SEARCH
Meta search engines submit your search to several individual search engines and their databases of web pages all at the same time.

1.  Dogpile.com
    This site searches all of the major search engines including Google, Overture, Ask Jeeves, Looksmart, Inktomi, About, FindWhat, and FAST.  It can retrieve images, websites, news, multimedia, and audio  information.  And to further help you refine your search, Dogpile groups results into categories.

2.  Mamma.com (The mother of all searches!)
     Mamma will help you find what ever you need (Doesn't she always?).  Just type in your search topic  and she will give you tons of information.  Mamma searches Web, News, Images, Yellow Pages, and White Pages on about 8 different general search engines.  Mamma also has a French translation... just in case you need it!
