Safety Tips for Shopping Online:
Protect yourself from “theft of identity”.
1. Look for SSL-Secure Sockets Layer- icons. This technology encrypts your credit card information. Usually the site informs you if they use SSL, but if they don’t look at the URL and if it begins with https, then the site is secure. Other icons used to show a secure site are a locked padlock, unbroken key or lock. These icons can be on the bottom or the top of web page.
2. Use different passwords for shopping. Don’t leave your passwords near your computer. If you record your password reverse the letter order.
3. A good password should be the first letters of a memorable phrase or song, then add a number or numbers and punctuation marks. Don’t use your birthday, phone number, address, etc.
4. Only give your credit card number and password over a secure connection.
