The Attack on Pearl Harbor

As we continue our discussion about World War II, we will now look at what event brought the Americans into combat.  This event was the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.  The link Eye Witness History  will take you to a site with first-hand accounts of the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Read the account by the Americans and the account by the Japanese then complete the following activities:

1. After reading both accounts, describe why the Japanese thought their attack was successful.

2. On the provided map of Pearl Harbor, trace the route flown by the Japanese planes and the targets that they hit. (Use the Japanese account to find this information)

3. Based on the information provided in the American account, predict American reactions to the attack.

These activities will aid our understanding as to why the United States entered into WWII and will lead to learning about the Axis and the Allied powers!
