Teacher Home Page

Objective:  Teachers will be able to create a web page to introduce themselves and their classes to their students.

Introduction:  Almost everyone everywhere has internet access in this day and age.  Teachers are logged on all day long; business people often have wireless internet and laptops.  Students have access at home where they use the internet to chat with friends, send e-mail, or surf the web.  The internet has become a major communication tool for people of all ages, so it is time teachers begin to utilize this great tool to communicate with students and their parents.

Readings: Eduscapes.com: This website will lead you to numerous links that discuss the importance of integrating

     technology into the classroom.  Understanding the increased usage of the internet in the classroom (and in life) will

     reinforce the importance of creating a web page all of your own! http://www.eduscapes.com/tap/#2

     Teacher Tips:This site provides teachers with tips on how to use the computer to their advantage.  There are ideas

     on this site that you can integrate into your classroom and web page. http://www.essdack.org/tips/page1.htm

Activity:  Armed with your background information, your task is to now create your own web site.  The site may be as simple or as complicated as you wish; however, it must address all of the following topics:

*Your Name and a Photo- if you have a very long and hard to pronounce name, you may give a nick name if you go by one (example- Miss. Kryjipskyieh may be Miss K.)

* A chart/list of your class schedule which gives times, class name, and location

* A list if ways to contact you (phone, e-mail, etc.) and times you are available to phone calls or helping students (free periods, after school, etc.)

The following topics are optional:

*Information on what schooling you have had (mainly college)

*Information on your family and/or pets

* Your Hobbies

* Any fun facts you think your students would want to know

As we progress through this course, you will be instructed how to add links to your page and update those links.  Later in the semester you will need to add a link to a homework page, an expectations page, and a daily activity page.  If you know how to do this already, you may begin, but if you do not DON’T WORRY!!

This site must be user friendly and appeal to the grade level and subject you are teaching. Please use color and images that relate to your subject area as well.

Examples:  My Teacher Pages.com- This site leads to multiple example pages created by teachers.  The pages range from the                                                      most complicated to the very simple. (http://www.myteacherpages.com/classroompages.cfm?featured=1)
