Civil War Battles on the Web

In continuation with our study of the American Civil War, we will be using more resources to expand our knowledge such as, primary sources, speakers, and the Internet.  We will be delving deeper into topics like the generals, battles, artillery used, important figures, slavery issue, and outcomes.  Although the battles of the Civil War alone could take a lifetime to explore to the fullest degree, we will do our best to cover as much as possible with the help of the web.

One of the hardest things to imagine about this war was the amount of destruction that took place.  Look on the following website and answer the question below to be able to participate in our class discussion regarding the devastation.

Visit: http://www.civilwarhome.com/casualties.htm

to learn about the casualties that occurred during the Civil War.

1)      Contrast the casualties that occurred among the North versus the South. Which side suffered the most total losses?

2)      Which side had the most death as a result of diseases?

3)      Which side had the most “battle-deaths”?

4)      Compare the tallies of losses between the states of: North Carolina, Louisiana, and Texas. Based on what we’ve discussed about battle location, what connections can you make between the proximity of the state to the battle location to the amount of losses?
